Handoffs
Hand a card to a teammate's Machine, with what they need. Check in later, or take it back.
Hand off a card
- On the card, pick Hand off to a teammate.
- Choose who, check what goes along (leave any part out with ×), and add a note. The text starts with the task and why it matters, from the card, and where it came from (its link). Nothing from a Personal account or another company's goes along.
- Send it. Their Machine shows it to them as a card.
While you wait, the card sits under Coming back later, "With Pat · waiting", with a check-in date. Check in now asks how it's going; Change time moves the check-in.
It comes back on top only when there is something to decide: Pat answered, declined or marked it done, the handoff failed, or a deadline came. A card due today checks in a few hours later, one due soon the work day before, an urgent one without a date the next work morning, and any other in 3 work days. Then it says "No answer from Pat yet · Check in", which opens the chat.
The card chat shows when it went ("Handed off to Pat's Machine · 14:02") and what came back: accepted, declined (with their note) or done. Back for a check-in with no answer yet, "No answer from Pat yet" sits under that line, with Mark done, Snooze and Not needed (no Do it: they have it). To nudge them or take it back, say so in the chat.
If the handoff didn't go out, the card and its chat say so, with Try again.
Hand it to someone else instead
Say so in the card's chat ("this should go to Kim"). The new handoff waits on the card for you to read: "Still with Pat until you send it to Kim", with Review handoff to Kim. That opens the form with the text, on Kim.
Take it back from Pat is on by default; turn it off to let both have it. Nothing goes out until you pick Hand off. Then the chat says "Taken back from Pat" and "Handed off to Kim's Machine". Pat's Machine is told too, and the card it made for them goes.
When they decline
They can say why: not theirs, already done, or no time this week. Then pick Do it myself, Hand to someone else or Mark done.
Someone outside the Network
Pick By email: your Machine drafts an email for you to send. Add a task page so they can answer in one tap: see Task pages.
